Over 200 Hong Kong students of all ages on Saturday and Sunday showcased their prowess in English language skills at the semifinal round of the annual “21st Century Cup” National English Speaking Competition (Hong Kong Region).
The contestants, chosen out of nearly 1,000 who had signed up for the game, touched on various topics through a session featuring the prepared speech and a followed Q&A session, designed to test their ability to respond spontaneously.
One of the judges Jenny Yeung from the English Language Education Section of the Education Bureau at the Hong Kong government said she found a lot of talented students here and it’s a good place for Hong Kong students to practice public speaking.
The competition has been one of the most popular English-speaking contests in the city since 2017 when it was introduced to Hong Kong.
